Eid al-Adha also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice” is one of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.
However before Ibrahim could carry out the sacrifice God provided a ram to sacrifice instead. Eid al-Adha also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. During this festival Muslims sacrifice animals typically sheep goats or cows and distribute the meat among family friends and those in need to commemorate Ibrahim’s obedience and to share blessings with others.
It’s a time for prayer reflection and generosity within the Muslim community.
